INAUGURATION OF A COLLABORATIVE CENTRE AT ERODE FOR OFFEREING THE LATEST IMMUNOTHERAPY FOR CANCER AND STEM CELL THERAPY FOR LIVER CIRRHOSIS

On 14th of February, 2007, NCRM's collaborative centre for stem cell research and therapy for liver cirrhosis and autologous immune enhancement therapy (AIET) for Cancer was inaugurated in the premises of Maruthi Medical Centre & Hospital (MMCH), Erode. The latest weapon in the fight to curb Cancer being the AIET and the autologous bone marrow stem cell therapy being the latest in treating liver cirrhosis, this collaboration will enable Maruthi Medical Centre offer these advanced treatments to their patients. The technological know-how for the treatments have been given to NCRM by Biotherapy Institute, Tokyo, Japan headed by Dr Hiroshi Terunuma  for AIET and Prof. Isao Sakaida of Yamaguchi University for liver cirrhosis.

On the 14th of February, 2007 a press meet was conducted to announce the starting of the same in which Dr Sadasivam and Dr Nirmala Sadasivam, directors of MMCH explained the objectives of the collaboration. Following that Dr Samuel JK Abraham, made a presentation to the gathering about the intricacies and advantages of the Immunotherapy for cancer and that of stem cell therapy for liver cirrhosis.


Initially the patients will be enrolled with the MMCH and upon preliminary evaluation, their stem cells and NK cells will be harvested in Erode, taken to  the Chennai centre of NCRM, where the isolation, processing and culture expansion of relevant cells will be undertaken before they are sent back to MMCH for treating the patients.

 

MMCH is a 300 bedded multi-specialty hospital headed by Dr Sadasivam, ENT surgeon and Dr Nirmala Sadasivam, an eminent Obstetrics & Gyanecology specialist, well known for IVF treatment.
