Chennai, Sep 26. Ten credit points of the Tamilnadu Dr MGR Medical University`s Continuing Medical Education (CME) programme have been awarded to the International Stem Cell Meet “NCRM NICHE 2011” to be held on the 15th of October 2011 in Chennai. The organizing committee of NCRM NICHE 2011, which is held for the sixth consecutive year has extended the registration deadline to the 4th of October 2011, enable many medical fraternity register for the meeting.
This one day meet will have a plenary session in which Prof. Gary Levy, Chairman, Multi-organ transplant programme, University of Toronto will deliver a talk on early diagnosis of rejection after transplantation. Toronto University is the place where stem cells were discovered for the first time in 1961 and it’s a great privilege for us to have Prof. Levy as a collaborator to the academic programme at NCRM and have him in person visit Chennai to share their experience in the field of Regenerative Medicine, said a member of the organizing committee.
The days programme will have Dr Kazutoshi Haraguchi from Japan who will deliver a special lecture to commemorate the International Year of Chemistry 2011, as he would talk on his original work of basic research in chemistry and development of nanomaterials to highlight the importance of the same by sharing with the audience, the various applications his research has yielded in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. Dr Koichi Iwatsuki, a neurosurgeon who has successfully transplanted neural stem cells in spinal cord injury patients will talk on his successful outcome.
As a part of the NCRM NICHE, the Fujio Cup Quiz on Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine is held for the Sixth time this year which will take place in the afternoon in which Medical & Biotech students from all over the country are participating and the valedictory session will be graced by the Consul General of Japan at Chennai, Mr. Masanori Nakano.
The registration for the programme is available online at www.ncrmniche.org until the 4th October 2011 in which the members of the public and patient advocacy groups, scientists, clinicians and students of medicine, life sciences, biotech, veterinary and dental sciences can participate after online registration.
The NCRM NICHE as of now is probably the ONLY annual meeting on stem cells and regenerative medicine conducted regularly since 2006 in India according to the organizers.
