Quiz on stem cells

CHENNAI: A State-level quiz on stem cells and regenerative medicine will be held on October 27 by Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine, an Indo-Japan institute that does research on cell therapies.

Both undergraduate and postgraduate students of medicine, biology and biotechnology in all government and private institutions are eligible to participate. A preliminary written test will be conducted to choose the best six teams which will then compete in the final round. The winning team will get a cash prize of Rs.10,000 and be awarded the Fujio Cup.

The subjects to be covered will be the history and development of cells, cell biology, cancer biology and immunology among others. Finalists of last years quiz cannot participate this year, but other members of the institution may participate.

A cartoon competition will also be held and registered participants of the quiz can take part in it. The competitions will be followed by a symposium on regenerative medicine in which experts will present their progress in research and clinical applications in stem cells.
