Nichi-In Centre for regenerative Medicine(NCRM), a chennai based Indo- Japan joint venture institute, has signed a MoU with Astec Inc., Fukuoka, Japan at the latter's Headquaters for adances research in anti-aging treatment. The MoU facilitate joint research on hematopoietic stem cells and natural killer(NK)cells to enhance the benefit of immunotherapy for cancer and to develop devices for zero gravity cell culture.
NCRM has been a pioneer in Autologous Immune Enhancement Therapy(AIET) for cancer, in which a patient's own NK cells and T-lymphocytes are used.
The Director, NCRM,Dr Abraham said,"the expertise of NCRM in AIET will be further enhanced by this tie up as the culture bags developed by M/S Astec Inc., will provide a gas permeable membrane based three dimensional cell culture technology by which the longevity of NK cells improve".
In common terms, this joint research will have a better outcome of treatment for the cancer patients, who were undergoing immunotherapy using NK cells. This would pave way for zero gravity stem cell culture experiments in the space and will be beneficial in the prevention of damages due to aging.
