NCRM-TANUVAS to host International Stem Cell meet with Virginia Tech & Tamilnadu State Science City
   

PRESS MEET TO ANNOUNCE NCRM TANUVAS HOSTING INTERNATIONAL SEMINAR ON "FRONTIERS OF STEM CELL AND BIOTECHNOLOGY IN VETERINARY AND HUMAN MEDICINE" JOINTLY WITH VIRGINIA TECH UNIVERSITY AND SCIENCE CITY

A press meet was conducted by the Madras Veterinary College -Tamilnadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University  (TANUVAS) on the 7th of July 2010 presided by the Vice-Chancellor Dr P Thangaraju at the Madras Veterinary College  premises to announce the International Seminar on “Frontiers of Stem Cells and Biotechnology in Human and Veterinary Medicine” to be conducted on the 15th-16th July 2010 at the  Madras Veterinary College, Vepery.

    This meeting is organised jointly by Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University (TANUVAS) - Madras Veterinary College, Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine (NCRM),  Tamil Nadu Science City &Virginia Tech Virginia - Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine (VMRCVM),  USA  with experts from the sponsoring institutes and their collaborating institutes to give talks on various topics in Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine.

He also explained the recent developments, the TANUVAS has accomplished in Stem Cell Research and studies which were started after a MoU signed between NCRM and TANUVAS on 8th December 2008.  They have jointly conducted a study in spinal cord injured canines and one such canine (www.stemcellrambo.com) has a good recovery which was presented before the audience. The clinical part of the work was undertaken by the surgical team of TANUVAS-Madras Veterinary College and the stem cell processing and expansion were done at Nichi-In Centre for regenerative Medicine  .   Preliminary results of this work were presented by Dr Justin Williams at the 4th Annual Symposium of NCRM on Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine  held last year

TANUVAS  jointly with NCRM will continue to pursue similar studies wherever evidences are available for safety of such applications.
