An eventful year of NCRM was commemorated with a series of events starting with the Fujio Cup Quiz on Stem Cells and Regenerative medicine

 

The inaugural address was given by Dr SGA Rao, (Director, Sri Raghavendra Biotech, Bangalore) and following which the lamp was lit by Mrs Dhanlaxmi Viswanathan (Director, RmKV Silks, Chennai) accompanied by guests of honour.

 

Following which the Journal of Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine - a free online journal was launched by Dr N.S Sundaram (Former Director, Govt. Institute of Ophthalmology, Egmore, Chennai).

Mr.Sridharan Father of Ms Mahalakshmi on her behalf accepting the honour for her contribution to the JSRM from the Consul General.

 

Then the new logo of NCRM was released by Capt. A.Nagarajan (Director, Anna Institute of Management, Chennai) and Prof.N.Krihnaswami (Secretary General, Indo-Japan Chamber of Commerce, Chennai).

The first anniversary bulletin Cell-e'bration was released by Ms Jeena Sukumaran who in turn was presented with "Hello Kitty"

The First Fujio Cup Quiz was conducted by Dr John Sudhakar with able assistance by a panel of experts Dr.H.N.Madhavan, Dr. Philip A.Thomas, Dr.Soma Guhathakurtha and Dr. SGA Rao.

The First Annual Symposium on Regenerative Medicine, followed the quiz which was moderated by Dr Geeta Jotwani (ICMR), Dr SSK.Marthandam (SRMC&RI) and Dr.P.Rajendran (IBMS).

First Anniversary function was graced by the presence of His Excellency Mr.Yoshiaki Kodaki, the consul general of Japan as the Chief guest (3rd from Right). Ms Yuka Iigai (Advisor-Economic affairs, Consulate of Japan at Chennai)(3rd from left) and Dr.Shigeo Tsukahara (Vice president, Yamanashi University, Japan) (2nd from Right) were the guests of honour.

Two students whose articles had been accepted for publication in the inaugural issue of the Journal of Stem Cells & Regenerative Medicine namely Ms Aruna Govindaraju and Ms Mahalakshmi Sridharan were honoured.

Feedback on the days events were given by a member of the public Mr. Sridharan and well wisher of NCRM. Mr.G.Venkataramani, Trustee, Hope Foundation gave felicitations. Prof. Tsukahara in his speech said he was amazed by the bubling enthusiasm and energy seen among the Indian youth in the field of biology and medical sciences and the exchange of such personnel between the technologically advanced institutes in Japan would benefit both the countries.

The Consul general upon giving away the prizes to the runners and winners of the Fujio Cup Quiz 2006, in his address lauded the achievements of the NCRM within a short span of one year and insisted that such efforts are very essential at this time when the world is becoming more like a global village. He also stressed such inter-personal exchanges between the two countries are necessary especially in the field of health care and assured his support to all such efforts by the Nichi-In Centre for Regenerative Medicine in the future.

In the beginning the annual report was presented by Dr Abraham. Th winners of the events were presented by Mr.Navin Amrithraj, and vote of thanks was given by Mr. A.K.Sheriff, both scientists, NCRM.

The event concluded with the national anthems of both Japan and India.
